  1. Well, I will say that I am so very glad you had the idea to do this challenge!

I started attending your Zumba classes five months after having my first baby after FINALLY being cleared by my doctor to exercise. After a very painful and damaging delivery, I spent five months enduring surgeries and recovery periods spent laying on the couch all.day.long. For months. Doctor's orders. Not only was this not easy to do with a new little baby to take care of, but it really took a toll on my emotional health. Although hormones undoubtedly played a part in this, I still felt like my life was on hold as I could not even walk for many many weeks, let alone care for my sweet baby girl the way that I wanted. I went through a small period of depression thinking that I would never heal and never even get to attempt to lose the baby weight that now, five months after giving birth, was really just WEIGHT. Of course, my main wish was to be able to care for my daughter fully, but I think all of us gals can agree that weight issues are never far from our thoughts.

So, after finally getting the green light from my doctor after five long, painful months of surgery and recovery, I timidly attended my first Zumba class. I stayed low-level the whole time, feeling quite awkward as I jiggled my way through the routines, stumbling over myself and feeling very out of place. Each week, however, I got a little more confident in my ability, and slowly I was able to work my way up to the higher steps and moves. The weight came off slowly but steadily as I shimmied and shook with the class, and the final push to lose those last lbs. came with the holiday fitness challenge. After weighing in today, exactly 10 months after giving birth and five months after the most painful and trying few months of my life, I shed a few tears to see that I actually had made it back to pre-pregnancy weight. Didn't think I'd ever even get to walk without pain, and now I can DANCE DANCE DANCE!!!

While there are WAY more important issues in the world than weight, etc., I do believe it is something we all care very much about. God works in interesting ways sometimes, and I have to say that I think He brought about this Zumba class in my life as not only a way to shimmy off those extra pounds, but to finally have FUN moving and working out and dancing and exercising once again after so much pain. Can I get an AMEN!?!? ;)

Anyway, so glad we did this, Renee. Such a great idea, and, although I might have sounded super corny saying all of this...I don't care! The whole experience has meant more to me than you know, so thanks!!

    :)
